Thursday 24th November, 6-7.30pm (wine and snacks from 5.30pm)
Birt Acres Lecture Theatre, Bute Building, King Edward VII Avenue, Cardiff

Panel: Robert Andrews (International Editor, Paid Content), Ian Hargreaves (Professor of Digital Economy, Cardiff University, former Financial Times Journalist, regulator, and political communicator), Bethan Jenkins AM (Plaid Cymru Media Spokesperson), Martin Moore (Director, Media Standards Trust, Hacked Off campaign), Martin Shipton (Chief Reporter, the Western Mail, National Union of Journalists Father of Chapel), and Rob Williams (Online Sub Editor, The Independent, speaking in a personal capacity)
Chair: Bob Franklin (Professor of Journalism Studies, Cardiff University)

Are our politicians too cosy with newspaper barons like the Murdochs? Are you concerned about journalism ethics and privacy in the wake of the phone hacking scandal? What happens when the press get too close to the police? Should journalists be more accountable to the public? Does the current regulator (the PCC) have enough teeth to keep the press in line? What does this scandal mean for the press in Wales?... Curious about any of these questions? Wonder what can be done to make things better? Then come along to this "Question Time" style event where you can quiz a panel of experts from the worlds of journalism, politics, and academia, and join the debate yourself.

This public meeting will be hosted by the Cardiff School of Journalism, Media and Cultural Studies and organised by the Co-ordinating Committee for Media Reform (CCMR: http://www.mediareform.org.uk/), which was set up in the wake of the phone hacking scandal to co-ordinate the work of advocacy groups and campaigners trying to protect the public interest in wake of the continuing phone hacking scandal and the Leveson Inquiry.
